The ACLU-MN Announces $600k Settlement with the City of Mpls for 12 Protesters who Suffered Injuries at Protests Over the Murder of George Floyd

12/1/2022

The @aclumn and the @mplsgov have reached a settlement over injuries inflicted upon 12 protestors demanding justice for George Floyd. The city will pay $600k, or $50k each, to the 12 protesters.

In addition to the monetary settlement, the agreement comes with several reforms. According to the ACLU-MN, β€œThe agreement prohibits the city from arresting, threatening to arrest, or using physical force including but not limited to chemical agents, flash bang/concussion grenades, and foam-tipped bullets against people engaging in lawful protests, assemblies, or demonstrations. The injunction also limits the use of chemical agents by police to disperse peaceful protests and requires that officers deployed to protests have their body-worn cameras recording and unobstructed.”

Is this enough?
