Supreme Court Reject Derek Chauvin’s Appeal

November 21, 2023

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal by convicted killer and former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin.

Chauvin was convicted of the 2020 killing of George Floyd, after he kneeled on Floyd’s neck during an arrest.

Chauvin’s latest appeal is based on theories by a pathologist in Kansas who has claimed that Floyd did not die as a direct result of the ex-officer’s actions.

This is the most recent of several appeals presented by Chauvin’s lawyers since his conviction.

As a result of the appeal rejection, Chauvin’s sentence remains in place. He is serving a 21 year federal sentence concurrent with a 22 1/2 year state sentence.

The justices did not make a comment regarding their decision to reject the appeal.
