Chicago Police Sergeant Fired Over a Botcher No-Knock Raid-Handcuffed a Naked and Innocent Woman

Chicago Police sergeant, Alex Wolinski, has finally been fired over his “failure of leadership” in a botched 2019 no-knock raid.

The raid was executed at the wrong address and resulted in the officers handcuffing innocent Black woman and social worker, Anjanette Young, while she was naked.

Young repeatedly told officers, who were looking for a man with an illegal gun, that they were at the wrong address. But they continued to handcuff her. She stood in front of several officers, naked and handcuffed, for more than 16 seconds before they allowed her to cover herself with a comforter—which kept falling off. She was eventually allowed to put clothes on.

In 2021, Young won a $2.9 million settlement against the City of Chicago.

This Thursday, the Chicago Police Board voted 5-3 to fire Wolinski for several violations surrounding the raid.

Young has since released a statement saying Wolinski’s firing is “only a small piece of the Justice for which I have been waiting.”

“While my heart goes out to his family because they now suffer the consequences of his abhorrent misconduct, I wish all eight members of the Chicago Police Board would have recognized the need and urgency for Sergeant Wolinski’s removal.”

Is this justice?
