11 Year Old Black Boy Shot By Police After Calling 911 for Help

Aderrien Murry, an 11 year old Black boy from Mississippi, was shot by a police officer after calling 911 to report a domestic disturbance.

Earlier this week, Aderrien called 911 on behalf of his mother, Nakala Murry, after her ex (and the father of one of Aderrien’s siblings) came over and began acting aggressively towards her.

When the Indianola police arrived with drawn guns, they asked everyone to exit the home.

As Aderrien turned the corner, heading towards the front door, the officer who’d asked family members to exit the home shot him.

“Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?” Aderrien could be heard asking.

The young boy suffered “significant injuries” according to a news release from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Murry was taken to the hospital. The gun shot lacerated his liver, fractured his ribs, and caused a collapsed lung.

The child’s family is calling for transparency and accountability from Indianola police.

"No child should ever be subjected to such violence at the hands of those who are sworn to protect and serve," the family’s attorney said in a press statement.

No word yet on what has or will happen to the officer who shot Murry. Will the cop’s “defense” be that he somehow mistook an 11 year old child for a grown man?
