L.A. Times Journalists Attacked by MN State Troopers During Protest Settle for $1.2Million
Two Los Angeles Times reporters, who were cornered and attacked with projectiles and pepper spray by Minnesota State Troopers during the uprising following the police murder of George Floyd, have settled with the state for $1.2 million.
L.A. Times photographer Carolyn Cole and former reporter for the Times Molly Hennessy-Fiske were brutalized by state troopers while in Minneapolis covering the aftermath of Floyd’s death.
On May 30th, 2020, the reporters were out past the governor-issued curfew covering the story, as they were authorized by law to be, when they were rounded up by state troopers attempting to disperse crowds.
“Being attacked by the Minneapolis State Patrol four years ago was an experience no other journalist should have to face,” Cole insisted in a written statement.
“I hope this ruling, upholding our 1st Amendment rights, will help to protect other photographers and reporters trying to do their jobs.”
