Minneapolis City Council Member Robin Wonsley Votes to Override Mayor Frey’s Veto on George Floyd Square Plans
Last month, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey vetoed the City Council’s request to study the creation of a pedestrian plaza at E. 38th Street and Chicago Avenue.
On Thursday, February 27th, the council voted to override Frey’s veto 9-4 with Council Members Elliott Payne, Robin Wonsley, Jeremiah Ellison, Jamal Osman, Katie Cashman, Jason Chavez, Aisha Chughtai, Emily Koski and Aurin Chowdhury voting in favor of the override.
This clip from the council meeting shows Council Member Wonsley discussing the future of George Floyd Square.
Meanwhile, Council Members Michael Rainville, LaTrisha Vetaw, Andrea Jenkins and Linea Palmisano voted against the override, aligning with Frey, who wants to keep George Floyd Square open to traffic.
