Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey Says He Plans to Run for Re-Election
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has not made an official announcement but, during on WCCO’s podcast with Jason DeRusha, Frey did say he plans to run for a third term.
On the podcast last Thursday, Frey told DeRusha, “I have said to you before that I do plan to do so, but I’m not making any announcements today.”
According to the the Star Tribune, Frey texted a similar sentiment to the newspaper on Monday. His text read, “I’m preparing to do so [run] but not making any formal announcements yet.”
If Frey does run in 2025, it’s too early to know how many candidates will run against him. However, Reverend DeWayne Davis announced his candidacy in October.
Rev. Davis has been a pastor at All God’s Children Metropolitan Community Church and Plymouth Congregational Church. He was also a Congressional legislative assistant for well over a decade.
City Councilmember Emily Koski has also expressed interest in running against Frey. Koski currently represents Ward 11. Koski’s late father, Albert Hofstede, served two terms as Mayor of Minneapolis in the 70’s.
Star Tribune reports that Koski, who hasn’t made an official announcement about her candidacy, mentioned on Monday that she’s “strongly considering” running.
