Mpls City Council Delays Rideshare Vote until July

The Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously on Thursday to delay a new rideshare ordinance’s start date until July.

The ordinance, which includes minimum pay requirements for rideshare drivers, was originally set to go into effect on May 1st. As a result , Uber and Lyft both announced they would be pulling out of the Minneapolis market.

“A delay is not a fix. While Council continues to make a mess of this, I’ll be working with policymakers and partners from across the disability, hospitality, and business communities to find a path forward for drivers and riders,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stated in a press release.

“While this development may pose a challenge, the resolve of drivers to pursue fair treatment remains unwavering,” Eid Ali, the head of the Minnesota Uber and Lyft Drivers Association, MULDA, stated after the vote.
