Portland, ME Divests from Genocide

Last week, Portland’s City Council in Maine voted unanimously to divest from companies doing business with Israel.

Nearly 100 companies were included in the divestment list including Intel, Volvo, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Chevron, among others.

According to reports from the United Nations, the listed companies supplied Israel with military equipment which was used in the genocide in Gaza.

Portland is the largest city in Maine, and the fourth to pass a divestment resolution. Portland is the first city on the East Coast to pass such a resolution, and follows the lead of Richmond and Hayward— both cities in California— as well as Hamtramck, Michigan.

What do you think about this and should your city be next?
