Protesters Rush NYC Subway. Respond to NYPD Shooting Over $2.90 Fare Evasion.
Protesters in New York City rush the Subway chanting “F*ck the NYPD” in response to Sunday’s police shooting over an alleged $2.90 fare evasion.
On Sunday afternoon, two NYPD officers in a subway station in Brooklyn witnessed a man they believed to be skipping out on the $2.90 subway fare. The officers followed him up several flights of stairs and Tased him before they both opened fire. While firing at the man, who did not have a gun, the officers managed to strike four people. The man, who has a history of mental illness, was shot in the stomach and is expected to survive. One of the officers was shot as well and is recovering. Two bystanders were also shot— a woman whose arm was grazed by a bullet, and a man who is in critical condition after being shot in the head. He has suffered brain damage from the gunfire.
