Former Minneapolis Police Officer Sentenced to 15 Days in County Workhouse for the 2020 Beating of Jaleel Stallings

Former Minneapolis police officer and SWAT leader Justin Stetson was sentenced to 15 days in the county workhouse earlier this week for the brutal beating of Jaleel Stallings during the uprising of 2020.

As part of a plea deal, Stetson, who plead guilty to felony third-degree assault, will also be on probation for two years. However, if he completes his supervised probation without incident, the felony charge will be wiped from his record.

Stallings, who is Black, suffered a busted eye socket, bloodied face, and other injuries during Stetson’s attack in May 2020. Stallings was arrested after being beaten, and tried for attempted murder—a charge which was later acquitted. He was eventually awarded a $1.5 million settlement from the City of Minneapolis for his ordeal.

Stetson must also enroll in anger management courses and pen an apology to his victim.
