Trans Minnesota Powerlifter Wins Discrimination Lawsuit Against USA Powerlifting

Minnesota transgender powerlifter JayCee Cooper has won in a two year court battle against @usapowerlifting.

In 2019 Cooper, along with other trans lifters, was barred from competing in a women’s power lifting competition.

@genderjustice partnered with Cooper to file a complaint with the MN Dept. of Human Rights, and followed up by filing a lawsuit.

A Ramsey County judge has now ruled in favor of Cooper and Gender Justice. Stating during the ruling, “By denying Cooper the right to participate in the female category, the category consistent with her self-identification, USAPL denied her the full and equal enjoyment of the services, support, and facilities USAPL offered its members.”

USA Powerlifting must now revise its policy and another hearing will take place regarding monetary damages.
