California to Cut Ties with Walgreens After the Company’s Abortion Pill Decision

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced via Twitter that California “won’t be doing business with Walgreens” after the company decided it would no longer sell abortion pills by mail or in-person in 20 red states.

This news comes after the attorneys general in those states threatened both CVS and Walgreens with fines and consequences if they continued to sell the abortion pill, mifepristone.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, a research and policy organization, over half of abortions in the US are performed by pills like mifepristone.

Newsom’s tweet continued, “any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women's lives at risk. We're done."
