Ammunition Vending Machines Are Now Available Across the Southern United States
Beginning this week, ammunition vending machines will be available in grocery stores across the southern United States.
The company, American Rounds, has introduced vending machines in almost a dozen stores in Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas, and it has plans to expand into Colorado.
These touch screen vending machines only accept credit cards and sell an array of 12-gauge shotgun shells and 9mm rounds.
Buyers must be 21 years of age or older, a requirement verified by an ID reader in the machine and controversial facial recognition technology.
According to the American Rounds website, their vending machines “redefine convenience in ammunition purchasing.”
The webpage continues, “Our automated ammo dispensers are accessible 24/7, ensuring that you can buy ammunition on your own schedule, free from the constraints of store hours and long lines.
Located at strategic points, our machines are as easy to use as an ATM, enabling a smooth transaction that gets you back to what matters most in minutes.”
Experts warn that the vending machines, some of which are available 24 hours a day in certain locations, could make it easier for people who intend to commit crimes to access bullets. Opponents are also concerned that the machines can be hacked allowing people who are underage or otherwise ineligible for the ammunition to access is.
