Members of Minnesota DFL Propose Tuition-Free College

DFL legislators from Minnesota introduced a bill earlier this week that would make tuition free for all public MN colleges and universities.

According to the bill, Minnesota residents, who have an adjusted family income of under $120k, would be eligible.

Senator Omar Fateh (DFL) introduced the bill and stated, “We've seen across the state — whether it's urban, rural, suburban — declining enrollment across the board. And right now we are really in a crisis, I would say we're in an emergency.”

Co-authors include Aric Putnam, DFL-St. Cloud; Robert Kupec, DFL-Moorhead; John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin; and Bobby Joe Champion, DFL-Minneapolis.

If passed, the bill could make college a reality for 59,000 Minnesotans who might otherwise not be able to afford it.
