Enbridge Pipeline Spills 70k Gallons of Oil in Wisconsin
An Enbridge pipeline has spilled 70,000 gallons of oil in Jefferson Country, Wisconsin— about an hour west of Milwaukee.
The spill occurred on Line 6 at the Enbridge Cambridge Station last month as a result of a poor connection on a transfer pipe. The faulty connection resulted in approximately 1,650 barrels of oil, or 70,000 gallons, leaking into the ground.
“Investigation and remediation began immediately upon discovery and continues. Removal of impacted soils is continuing,” stated Juli Kellner, a communications representative for Enbridge.
Kellner insisted the spill was immediately reported. However, the federal pipeline safety agency believes the leak had likely been going on for an “extended period of time” before it was discovered.
“We are working with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as cleanup and restoration proceed,” Kellner continued, mentioning that 60% of the leak has already been remedied via excavation.
It is worth noting that Enbridge is the same company that paid police in Minnesota over $2 million to target pipeline protesters in 2021. Many of the targeted protesters were members of local Native American tribes.
