MN Attorney General Sues Glock
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced he is suing weapon manufacturer Glock Inc., over the ease in which a user can transform the company’s semi-automatic handguns into fully-automatic machine guns.
Glock handguns, in particular, can be outfitted with “switches,” commonly referred to as auto-sears, or machine gun conversion devices that turn an average handgun into a machine that can unload dozens of rounds with minimal effort. These conversion tools cost just a few dollars and can be easily installed.
In a press statement, Ellison said of the Georgia-based gun company, “Glock has known about this problem for a decade and has done nothing.”
“We have been prosecuting dozens of people that have been possessing these illegal machineguns, using them in violent crimes, but it’s way too easy for others to do the same,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara during the same press conference.
Ellison reiterated that the goal of the lawsuit is to push Glock to change its design so guns cannot be manipulated.
“We’re not trying to stop them from selling guns,” Ellison said. “We’re trying to stop them from selling a design that makes their gun particularly easy to convert.”
