Global Data Breach Compromises Information About 95k Minnesota Youth in Foster Care

The names and identifying information of 95k Minnesota youth in foster care have been accessed as part of a larger, global data breach.

The cybersecurity breach stems from an international attack by the Russian ransomware group, Clop, targeting the file transfer software MOVEit.

The FBI teamed with the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and released a statement regarding the attack earlier this week.

The organizations estimate that Clop has “compromised more than 3,000 U.S.-based organizations and 8,000 global organizations."

They also insisted, “Due to the speed and ease (with which it) has exploited this vulnerability, and based on their past campaigns, FBI and CISA expect to see widespread exploitation of unpatched software services in both private and public networks.''

Visit the MN Department of Education’s website for more information about this breach and how to keep your information protected.
