MN to Expunge 60,000+ Low-Level Marijuana Convictions as Early as May

Minnesota is set to expunge nearly 66,000 marijuana-related misdemeanors as early as May 2024.

This move is a result of legislation passed last year to regulate adult-use cannabis. The legislation also requires the automatic review of minor marijuana convictions.

According to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, anyone in the state with a low-level conviction will have their record automatically expunged, unless the judicial branch objects— which they must do before May 13th.

A Felony Expungement Board has been created to review felony convictions on a case-by-case basis.
