WI Governor Vetoes Bill Banning Transgender Athletes from Competing in High School Sports

Wisconsin’s Governor Tony Evers vetoed a bill banning transgender high school students from competing on sports teams aligning with their gender identity.

Furthermore, upon vetoing the bill, the democratic governor insisted he would do so for “any bill that makes Wisconsin a less safe, less inclusive, and less welcoming place for LGBTQ people and kids.”

Governor Evers stated in his veto, that this legislation “harms LGBTQ Wisconsinites’ and kids’ mental health, emboldens anti-LGBTQ harassment, bullying, and violence, and threatens the safety and dignity of LGBTQ Wisconsinites, especially our LGBTQ kids.”
