Transgender Woman Brutally Attacked at Minneapolis Light Rail Station
On Monday morning, a transgender woman was left in critical condition after a brutal attack at the Metro Transit Light Rail station on Lake Street.
Witnesses reported the incident to Metro Transit Police, including that they saw three men push a woman down the stairs and then continue to beat her.
EMS had already loaded the woman into an ambulance, and were giving her medical care by the time the transit agency’s officers arrived at the scene.
According to reports, at least one officer thought the attack was due to an “anti-transgendered bias,” which, if proven, would then make the incident a hate crime.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where a CT scan revealed brain bleeding, a fractured rib, and a collapsed lung. She is now in stable condition.
Two of the suspects, Kevin York Jr. and Keaton Morris, got onto a passing light rail and were later apprehended—one with the victim’s purse.
York and Morris are in custody and they are both facing first degree aggravated robbery charges and third degree assault charges.
