U of MN Complies, Shows $5M in Investments Tied to Israel
In compliance with demands made by protestors calling for divestment from Israel, the University of Minnesota has released a list of its current investments with ties to Israel.
The list, which totals $5 million, makes up only a fraction of the university’s $2.27 billion endowment. The largest of the 41 companies identified include Caterpillar, Honeywell, and Nova, among others.
The six demands were laid out as part of an agreement between pro-Palestine protesters and the university, in order for the protesters to remove their encampment from campus.
Beyond seeking divestment from Israel, the students also demanded transparency around investments, a letter of support, and amnesty for those arrested.
According to a social media post by the U of M Divestment Coalition, “If it’s only 0.1% of the endowment, divestment should be easy.”
