Florida High School Athletes May Be Required to Submit Menstruation Information
Last month, the Florida High School Athletic Association has created a draft of a physical education form for student athletes. The proposed form asks students to disclose if they’ve begun menstruating, when they began menstruating, when they had their last period and how many periods they’ve had in the past year.
Quoted in the Seattle Times, Maxx Fenning, who is the President of PRISM, a Florida nonprofit that advocates for sexual health resources for LGBTQ+ youth stated, This is clearly an effort to further stigmatize and demonize transgender people in sports (and) meant to further exclude people who aren’t assigned female at birth in girls sports.”
Fenning continued, “Beyond that, I think there’s concern among LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ [students] alike. This is an extremely invasive mode of gleaning into someone’s reproductive history, which is especially dangerous in this post-Roe world we live in.”
Is that information necessary on student athlete forms?
