Ilhan Omar Removed from Foreign Affairs Committee

The Republican-led House has voted 218-211 to remove Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, from its Foreign Affairs Committee.

Republicans pointed to an old social media post by Omar which was criticized as being anti-Semitic.

However, the vote was denounced by opponents as being retaliatory. In 2021, the then-Democratic-led House removed both Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) and Paul Gosar (R) from their committees over problematic social media posts.

Omar is not the first Democrat to be removed from their committee in this new Republican-led House regime.

Only last week, Kevin McCarthy, who was elected as Speaker after 15 tedious votes, removed Democratic Representatives Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff from the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where no vote was necessary.
