Suspect Arrested in MN Mosque Fire, Federal Investigation Prompted

A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s fire at Oromo American Tawhid Islamic Center in St. Paul.

The fire caused extensive damage to the building. However, there was nobody inside the mosque or community center when the fire was set.

This is the sixth time a mosque has been vandalized in Minnesota this year.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is now investigating the fire.

“In the last several months, Minnesota’s Muslim community has experienced several attacks motivated by hate,” Governor Tim Walz wrote on Twitter.

“In Minnesota, we have a zero tolerance policy toward violence. We continue to stand with our Muslim friends and neighbors.”
