White Man Will Stand Trial for Shooting Black Teen Who Knocked on the Wrong Door

In April of this year, Ralph Yarl accidentally knocked on the wrong door when picking up his younger siblings. Andrew Lester, the white homeowner who answered the door, proceeded to shoot the Black teen twice—once in the head, and a second time in the arm.

A judge in Missouri has ruled that Lester will stand trial for the shooting.

16 year old Yarl, who survived but still suffers physical and mental pain from the incident, testified that he lost his phone at school the day he was sent to pick up his twin brothers from a friend’s home.

Yarl is now recovering from the traumatic brain injury and is focused on his senior year of high school and going to college.

Lester’s lawyers have claimed the 84 year old acted in self defense and feared he was being robbed. Yarl and his family have retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump as his lawyer.

Lester faces first degree assault and armed criminal action charges and is set to appear in court again on September 20th.
