Same Sex Couple Awarded $100k After Being Denied a Marriage License by Kim Davis

9/14/2023

In 2015, Kim Davis, who was the Rowan County Clerk at the time, denied a marriage license to David Ermold and David Moore.

On Wednesday, a Kentucky jury awarded the couple $50,000 each for the violation of their constitutional rights.

At the time of the license denial, Davis told the couple she was acting “under God’s authority.” She later spent 5 days in jail for contempt of court.

Another couple, who was also denied a license from Davis, was awarded no damages at the same hearing.
