Lewis won in yesterday’s runoff becoming the new Public Service Commissioner in Louisiana, beating out incumbent Lambert Boissiere III, who was backed by the state’s largest utility company.

Lewis will be Louisiana’s first openly LGBTQ official elected to state government.

He is currently the Director of Public Affairs and Outreach for the non-profit Louisiana Budget Project.
