Nashville’s Metropolitan Council Will Likely Vote to Reinstate Rep. Justin Jones to TN Legislature on Monday
Nashville’s Metropolitan Council is holding a special meeting on Monday to discuss reinstating Rep. Justin Jones to the Tennessee House legislature. Jones and fellow Black Democrat, Justin Pearson, were expelled following a gun control protest on the House floor.
Meanwhile, the third member of the protest, white Democrat Gloria Johnson, avoided expulsion by a narrow vote margin.
According to reports, 23 of the 39 members of the special council have announced plans to support Jones’ reinstatement during Monday’s vote.
Unlike Jones, who represents Nashville, Pearson represents Memphis and is hoping for a similar outcome from a council vote about his future with the legislature.
The councils will vote on temporary members to fill both Jones and Pearson’s spots. Based on reports, the councils will likely vote for Jones and Pearson to return as their own “replacements” in the interim.
