Cousin of BLM Co-Founder Dead After Being Tased by LAPD

Keenan Anderson, a 31 year old high school English teacher visiting Los Angeles from Washington DC, was tased to death by an LAPD officer after a car accident.

Footage from the incident was released yesterday. Now, Anderson’s cousin, Black Lives Matter co-founder, Patrisse Cullors, and activists are demanding justice and accountability.

Police responded to a late afternoon car accident on January 3, where they found Anderson in the road, begging for help. The police claimed Anderson was acting erratically and, instead of checking on him, immediately began barking commands at him as though they were going to arrest him.

Anderson, visibly terrified kept shouting “they’re trying to sedate me!” and “I know too much!” A witness can be heard exclaiming that Anderson appeared in a paranoid state and it has been suggested that he was suffering a medical crisis.

Anderson eventually tried to leave the scene, at which point several officers tackled him and began holding him down, one even leaning on Anderson’s neck with their elbow. Anderson can be heard screaming, “They’re trying to George Floyd me!” in between pleas for help.

While being held down by several officers, one tells him to turn around or they’ll tase him. Soon after the officer begins to use repeatedly taser him.

Anderson was taken to the hospital, where he later died. He leaves behind a young child.

According to Reuters, there have been upwards of 1,000 instances between 2000 and 2018 in which people died after a tasing.

What should happen now?
