Inmate Who Stabbed Derek Chauvin Charged with Attempted Murder

December 2, 2023

52 year old federal inmate John Turscak has been charged with attempted murder following the November 24th stabbing of Derek Chauvin.

According to reports, Turscak—who is currently serving a 30 year sentence—stabbed Chauvin 22 times with a makeshift knife in the law library of the federal prison in Tucson, Arizona.

Ex-Minneapolis police officer Chauvin, who is serving several decades in prison for the 2020 killing of George Floyd, had “life saving measures” performed on him after the stabbing and survived.

Turscak claimed he would have killed Chauvin had correctional officers not intervened. Turscak is charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
